''Deborah Daniel Lonny a family member of Lt. Col. Mohammed Abu Ali, still in pains over the demise of their brother while in active service, she and other family members remember their brother who fought gallantly and they have this memories of him in writing left with them:

''The death of Lt. Col Mohammed Abu-Ali has brought about fresh pains to me. Each time his name is mentioned on Facebook, in the news etc I shed a tear and my heart becomes heavy not because I know him but because he reminds me so much of you. He was a committed soldier just like you were. I remember the day we went to bury you, your friends and colleagues were shedding tears not minding that they were in uniform. Some came and spoke to us, telling us you were an exceptional soldier that will be sorely missed. I remember one came to me and said "so Daniel na your brother? Kai Daniel like him work no be small, even when him dey sick him go say, oga I dey go bush". Amidst my tears I smiled because that was just you. I remember when we tried to discourage you from going when you were sent to the war front in Borno. We said just tell them you're from Maiduguri and people know your face already so it will be risky, you smiled and said no you wanted to be there, besides you just came back from counter terrorism course in Pakistan and the training would be a waste if you didn't go to the war front. That was how you went to Maiduguri and left us with our hearts in our mouths. I remember one time we heard there were great casualties and we knew it was the special forces unit where you belonged to that was affected greatly. We tried reaching you but couldn't and boy were we scared? Then Mary called a captain she knew to find out if he knew the names of people affected, when she told him your name, he said to her, " Daniel na your brother? No worry bullet no go fit kill am, he knows his work so much that sometimes even as an officer I envy him." And true to his words, a bullet did not kill you, you were hit by the fragment of an AA and you bled internally. Soldiers that were with you said you fought until you were so weak and you still managed to climb back into the hilux before you handed your gun to a colleague for safe kip. Even in death you were following the rules to the latter. We have discovered a lot about what caused your death, sabotage and all but I know it was just time that was why it happened, or else you would have been alive. You faced worst situations in the war front but came out unscathed until that fateful day 9th July 2014. You always told us not to worry that if you died, the Army would inform us, but alas, did they? No, your friend Peter who was on pass, came back and identified your remains then called us to inform us on the 27th of July( 2 weeks and 4 days after your demise). There's a lot surrounding your death but we leave it to the all knowing God.
Today I remember you as a gallant soldier, who fought and gave his life as a sacrifice for other Nigerians to be able to go to bed in peace. You were the best in what you did. You stood out. Even though you joined as a recruit because of your zeal you couldn't wait to get into NDA or to get a degree and start as an officer, yet you attended almost every course, tracker, airborne, ranger, name it all. You were a great soldier and I want Nigerians to know that there lived a dedicated and intelligent soldier who loved his job and country more than anything and served his country for 11 years.
I remember you today not because of anything but because I want the people to know that there lived a soldier, whose life mattered to his family.
Continue to rest in peace my brother, my mother's son, L/CP Emmanuel Daniel Nyako, KIA 9th July, 2014. We miss you.''
